Importance of Continuity

When producing either a Film or a TV programme, it is important to keep notes on how you have created each scene, with how you created the makeup and hair. Having these continuity notes ensures that the production can be stopped after the scenes have been filmed. It also helps if you have to go back and re shoot a certain scene, without the audience noticing that there were complications with filming the productions.Without these notes it is easy to make a mistake with a combination of aspect within filming. such as if a character has a wound one side of the face and then in the next scene it is on the other side, it starts to make the production before more and more unrealistic. It is not just makeup and hair that needs these continuity notes, it is also smaller things like how much drink is in someone's glass and if it is in the right place. Whether there clothing is in the right place as it was before hand.
For makeup artists it is more crucial that they made these notes as it will help make the recreation easier and quicker, it's helpful as well if a makeup artist couldn't make a certain day or is ill, as this will allow another makeup artist to create the same makeup look without it looking different.

Here are some examples where continuity has errors.
